16 “Swiftie” Cats Find Loving New Homes Thanks to the Community’s Support
TORONTO, ON – November 26, 2024 – Toronto Humane Society is thrilled to announce the incredible success of its Taylor Swift-inspired cat adoption campaign. Of the 17 shelter cats named in honour of Taylor Swift’s iconic music, lyrics, and life, 16 have found their loving new homes, thanks to the overwhelming support from fans and the local community.
This campaign, launched to coincide with Taylor Swift’s Toronto Eras tour stop, brought together animal lovers and Swifties alike in a meaningful way. Cats like “Folklore,” “Evermore,” “Cornelia,” and “August” have now become cherished members of their new families, with their unique names continuing to bring joy to adopters and spark conversations about shelter animal adoption.
“We are so thankful to everyone who opened their hearts and homes to the ‘Swiftie’ cats,” says Melissa Shupak, Director of Animal Sheltering at Toronto Humane Society. “Your compassion has not only given these cats a second chance but also brought a powerful sense of community to our shelter. For those who want to make an even bigger difference, another way to help is by donating this Giving Tuesday. With the generous support of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets and Supplements, donations will be matched up to $10,000—doubling the impact of every dollar donated to help animals in need.”
The campaign’s creative tribute saw 17 shelter cats named after Taylor’s songs, albums, and themes, from “Reputation” and “Midnights” to “Benjamin” and “Willow.” Toronto Humane Society even played Swift’s music throughout the adoption halls, adding a soothing soundtrack to the cats’ days and amplifying the celebratory spirit. Fans also rallied around the campaign, sharing their enthusiasm across social media and helping to raise awareness for shelter animal adoption.
In addition to inspiring adoptions, Toronto Humane Society extended an open invitation to Taylor Swift herself for a behind-the-scenes tour to meet these feline super-fans. While she was unable to attend during this campaign, the invitation remains open for a future visit.
“We’re grateful for Taylor’s music and her influence, which brought an incredible sense of excitement to our shelter,” Shupak continues. “Swiftie is a sweet cat looking for a family, with her buddy named Cat Benetar, and we hope this campaign will inspire people to adopt them.”
Toronto Humane Society remains dedicated to connecting animals in need with loving homes while raising awareness of the joys of adoption. With the continued support of the community and Swift’s fans, the legacy of this campaign will help more animals find the care and compassion they deserve.
