Toronto Humane Society recognizes that many families temporarily face difficult financial times and may require assistance in caring for their pets. We believe that no one should face the difficult decision of having to surrender their pet because they cannot afford the cost of food.
Our Pet Food Bank service is intended for families facing short-term financial difficulties and not for the permanent or long term feeding of your pets. If you need temporary assistance in feeding your pet, please visit us at 11 River Street during our hours of operation.
We also host larger Community Day events where we distribute hard and wet pet food and a pet supplies such as leashes, carriers, food bowls and toys. Community Day event dates are posted on social media and on our website calendar.
Did you know that pet food remains safe to consume long after its printed Best Before Date? It’s true! Bacterial growth and the gradual decline in food quality doesn’t happen overnight, and if pet food is stored safely and the packaging is sealed, undented, and intact, Animal Welfare Organizations that have Pet Food Banks can extend the life of pet food donations and distribute more food to families in need.
