Love comes in many forms – romantic, platonic, familial. Best of all, though, is the unconditional love we share with our pets. This special bond should be celebrated every day, but especially on Love Your Pet Day, which falls on February 20th.
While we show our pets that we love them every day by giving them food, a comfortable bed, and tons of snuggles (if they like them), here are some fun ways you can show extra love to your furry family members in celebration of Love Your Pet Day.
You have probably found your cat in all sorts of hiding places – cardboard boxes, laundry bins, fresh piles of laundry. Have you ever thought about building them an actual fort? Grab some blankets and pillows, and extra tunnels, and watch your cat lose their mind over this new construction.
Everyone loves scavenger hunts, especially dogs. Depending on the weather, hide some of your pups’ favourite toys or treats in the backyard, or in a quiet park, and then celebrate once your dog finds them. Make the hiding places easy to find at the beginning, and then gradually make the items more difficult to find. You can also try this inside if you have the space.
Hold onto those empty paper towel rolls! You can stuff them with hay or with your rabbit or guinea pigs’ favourite treats. They will love the adventure and tasty treat at the end.
Sometimes the best gifts of love are the ones that we make with our own hands. Join us on Saturday, February 25th for a Dog Cookie Decorating Workshop lead by a Tom&Sawyer chef in celebration of Cake My Day. You can decorate your Tom&Sawyer dog cookie however you’d like, and then take it home and surprise your furry friend! Click here for more details on the workshop and to RSVP.
This suggestion may be less exciting for you and your pet, but maintaining a relationship with your veterinarian will keep you up to date on your pet’s health and allow you to take a proactive approach to your pet’s well-being. Making sure that your pet is healthy and happy is certainly a great way to show your pet that you love them!
Tell the world what makes your pet the best sidekick, alarm clock, or work partner on social media. Share videos and photos of your pet along with the hashtag #NationalLoveYourPetDay to commemorate your unique human-animal bond and your pet.
