Melo

I adopted my cat, Melo from the Toronto Humane Society about a week ago (her name was originally Sail) I’ve been taking an abundance of photos because I’m so excited to share! Firstly, I wanted to thank everyone at the Humane Society for all your hard work and efforts, especially throughout COVID. Also for giving me the most lovable, perfect cat ever. It’s been so fun and she is just so happy! You’ve made my experience so positive and I’m definitely recommending to any potential animal owner! Thanks again and stay safe!!!

Grizzly Bear

I adopted Grizzly Bear (formerly Grizzly) in 2016. He was nervous and skittish when he moved in. He was 8 years old and had been in the shelter for months and had an adoption fall through.

He just celebrated his 12th birthday and Grizzly Bear is now the most affectionate head-butter around. He walks around like a big feather duster lion, showcasing his glorious mane, bib, and pantaloons. He takes his lead from his outgoing adopted brother Tiggy and is an indispensable member of the family. His favourite toy is a plastic stick, which he carries around, talks to, and treasures.

I painted this furry monster; you can see Grizzly Bear’s and other animal portraits at @thelibrarium!

Splashy

In February 2020 - my mom’s birthday - we decided to adopt a hamster! This was not the first time we have adopted. She was our 5th little hamster! Our other four hamsters all lived really long and happy lives. One even had three legs! They were all rescued.

Adopting this hamster was a very exciting experience!

Splashy, formerly known as Applejack, was sleeping when we first met her. She was really cute and friendly and we knew she would be perfect!

We brought her home in a hamster box on the subway. Upon arrival home, we made sure her cage was all set up, and then we let her explore her new habitat! She loved to play from day one, begging to come out every second she could! Now that we have had her for around five months, we know she is the perfect fit! She is very active and so friendly.

Splashy also loves to make herself a nest. Sometimes she enjoys staying still and other times she loves to run around on her wheel. As for food, she likes it the most! She loves veggies, fruits and has even tried a bite of a vegan pancake! She is a very special hamster and we are delighted to have her in our lives. You can follow Splashy on her journey at @hamster_rescues.

Thank you to Toronto Humane Society team for finding us a perfect match and we will be forever grateful!

Sonny

Sonny was at the shelter for quite a while with severe heartworm. He is now happily living at home with his 2 kids and best wrestling buddy, our cat. Quarantine has been great for him because we are always with him. His favourite activity is sleeping and he manages (despite being a medium breed dog) to stretch himself to the full length of the beds or couches. Sometimes he acts like a puppy and is up to no good, but for the most part is well behaved. He loves being mushed and squished by everyone, particularly the kids. He’s put on some weight finally and loves his food!
