Just wanted to send a big thank you for Gerome. He has settled in amazingly well, and has one of the sweetest dispositions of any cat I have ever meet. Gerome was my Christmas gift to myself and I don’t think I could have chosen any better.

Thank you all for your wonderful wishes…. more Gerome updates to come!!!!

Happy new year

Jennifer and Gerome

Tala

Hello THS,

Steve and I adopted “Appa” (now known as Tala) on November 13, 2016. We just wanted to share some pictures with you. We are loving our new puppy and she is settling in very well. She loves running and playing with all the dogs in Riverdale Park twice a day and spreading her chest of toys all over the living room floor. Tala is a happy puppy and we are so lucky to have gotten such a gem.

We hope the team and THS had a very merry Christmas and we wish you all the very best for the New Year. Thank you for all the work you do for the amazing animals looking for forever loving homes. Tala found hers!

Warm wishes,
Michelle and Steve

Sherlock

Sherlock

December 30, 2016

I fell in love with the photo of this dog in 2008 while reading “Lost and Found” reports on your THS website.

I don’t know why I was doing that. I called THS and was told that he was still in lost status and not adoptable.

I did get a tip though that if he disappeared from Lost he was headed for adoption.

I fill out the paperwork right away and when he did disappear I taxied over and managed to succeed with the adoption.

We have had some bumpy times and looking at that face you might not believe it. But with a trainer (we both needed training) and lots of patience, treats, and bandaids (for me) we have settled into a good life together.

Special thanks to THS and your good advice, to Bay Cat and Dog Hospital for sensitive excellent care, and to PAWS Playground for helping him be social and have fun! What else should a guy like Sherlock be doing?

Niilo

Niilo

December 30, 2016

Two years ago today (December 30) I adopted “Peppermint Stick”. Inspired by the names of the Finnish players at the World Junior Hockey Championships - a Canadian holiday-time staple - I named him Niilo, Nicholas in Finnish. When I learned of Niilo’s past during our meet and greet at the shelter, it was apparent to me that he hadn’t had a very doting previous guardian. As a result, he still shows some anxiety about being left alone for periods of time. However, he has completely stolen the hearts of not just me as his parent but also my parents (his grandparents - who relish any chance they get to have him for a sleepover for a few days), my brother (his uncle) and my girlfriend (his other parent). He makes us laugh through his playful antics, and he has an ever-rotating repertoire of places to sleep, including a staircase with a carpeted perch at the top his grandfather built where he basks in the sun and watches the pigeons.

Thank you THS for giving Niilo a second chance so he could brighten our lives.

Ranger

Sorry it’s been so long since we last sent any pictures or updates of Ranger (we decided to drop the Rick from his name), but he is doing great! He is well socialized, and has progressed well in his training (he is beginning to learn how to do some tricks). He is one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever known, very well behaved and is always wagging his tail (seriously, it never stops lol).

Garfield

Garfield

December 27, 2016

Good afternoon!

I want to update about my cat Garfield, but his former name was Dolce Vita.

This past Sunday, October 23, I’ve celebrated my third anniversary about having my cat Garfield because I have adopted him three years ago which was October 23, 2013 when he was only six years old.

I also want to let you know when I adopted my cat three years ago, I renamed him as Sylvester from Dolce Vita.

When I’ve adopted my cat on October 23, 2013, I wished I could have named him as Garfield instead of Sylvester since the very beginning because my cat really looks like Garfield similar to the classical cartoon show from the 80s as “Garfield and Friends.”

The reason why I’ve refused to name my cat Garfield since the beginning of my adoption because I’ve received sad flashbacks about my parents gave my cat away when I was a teenager; moreover, I used to have a cat similar to my current feline when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, my parents gave my cat away only because they couldn’t afford anymore for veterinary expenses.

Because I’ve been having my cat for a long time since October 23, 2013, now I’ve felt comfortable to rename him the right name as Garfield because he is very chubby, huge, and white with orange; and especially from his loving looks that he gives me most of the time.

As a result, I am happy that I could cope and move on about the sad memories from the past because Garfield has been living with me for the past three years.

This is going to be my last time in changing my cat’s name. From now on, I will not be changing my cat’s name anymore, and his name is going to be Garfield.

When I bring my cat for pet photos with Santa’s event almost in one month, I will introduce my cat to Santa Claus as Garfield.

Yours truly,

Daisy Castaneda

Theodore

Theodore

December 14, 2016

Theodore (a.k.a Teddy but formerly Capelli) came into my home from THS a little over a year ago. He had big sweet eyes and a hilarious meow/moo but was saddled with a very bad case of anxiety. When he first arrived home he lived in the bathroom, door closed, as I slowly adjusted him to life with his new feline brother, Charlie. But even after they had met and the door opened, he still refused to emerge. Teddy spent an entire month in the bathroom, backing away at the sound of my voice, cowering in corners, refusing to eat in front of me. It was hard, especially because all I wanted to do was love him - but we were both patient.

On Christmas morning I was sitting on the floor wrapping gifts when Charlie perked up beside me. I turned around and there was Teddy – big eyed, curious, obviously terrified but willing to give us a shot. He let me pet him that morning for a few minutes before he ran back off to the bathroom. I sat there bawling on the floor thinking it was one of the loveliest Christmas gifts I’ve ever gotten.

A year later, he’s thriving. He’s my cuddle monster, I call him Teddy Bear. He and Charlie love playing together and napping together and I’ve never seen a cat so into catnip. He is my second alarm in the morning, waking me up with his unique meow – which seriously is a moo. I’m blessed to have found him, he taught me a new kind of patience and I like to think I taught him love. I’ll always be so grateful to THS for looking out for him until we could find each other.

All my best,

Ashley

Bella

Bella

December 13, 2016

Hello,

I thought I would share how Bella (formerly Belladonna) is doing. She was 12 weeks old when we adopted her from you guys back in May. She is now 10 months old and my best friend!

Bella was the star of both of her obedience courses. She is almost too smart and learns all of her tricks with ease. Her favourite is to sit pretty with both paws in my hand, begging for food! She is a very high energy puppy and loves coming for long walks and has just started doing short runs with me. She even participated in the Santa Shuffle for the Salvation Army and got her very own medal. She also loves wearing sweaters and socks. She gets chilly and loves to cuddle up in a throw on the couch after a good walk.

I was a bit apprehensive about how people might react to her as she is part “pit bull”. I’m pleased to report she has only been received with love. Her goofy demeanour and constantly wagging tail always make people smile. She is out there showing that with love, any breed can be an amazing dog. She is polite with people and plays so nicely with every dog she meets. We couldn’t be more proud of her.

Thank you for helping us find the perfect puppy. She is so special.

Emma
