Rory

Rory

November 30, 2015

I knew the minute I saw Rory that there was something special about him. When we brought him home and took him out of the kennel, he immediately made himself at home and even tolerated my dog Marty following him around the house. It’s been just over a week and you would think the two grew up together from birth. They are best buds.

Rory was slightly scared of Marty’s “crazy” play the first few days but has since come around and even joins in on it! I love watching them play together; they’ve even formed their own version of chase. It helps that Marty is about the same size and age as the cat. I didn’t know much about Rory when I got him which made me somewhat hesitant. But I’m pleased to say he doesn’t seem to have any bad habits whatsoever. He is an amazing cat and I am so happy we’ve found him.

Takara and Alice

Takara and Alice

November 25, 2015

Since adopting Alice Augusta on August 5th, 2015 it seemed we needed a sister for her, so we adopted Takara on November 20th and added the second name of Amai so that her full name in Japanese means “Sweet Treasure”. And that she is!!

So far, she and Alice don’t see eye-to-eye but it’s early days and they will grow to love each other in time. With me, both girls are sweethearts and so loving and so dear. I could never part with either one now. I love them both so much. I have included another photo of Alice (black and white) along with one of Takara (grey and white). Soon enough I hope to be able to photograph them together!

Again, much gratitude to THS staff (especially Kat) for all of the wonderful and dedicated work you do on these little ones’ behalf so that they have a chance at a better life. Thank you so much!

Linda, Alice and Takara Herrington

PS - I also wanted to add that Takara and Alice seem to be slowly getting used to one another. They are still a bit wary of one another and give each other space, but at least we are all living together now and no one is separated in one room!

Takara is just as adorable as Alice but of an entirely different personality, of course. She loves butting your hand to initiate pets and flops on her side, then rolls on her back to get belly rubs. She is so funny and so darling. Like Alice, Takara is a very gentle girl. I am buying a second cat tree since they don’t seem to like sharing. Sisters (lol)!

I have never had two cats at once before and this is beyond great! I love them so much. They are wonderful to watch and to interact with and once they start playing together, well, even more photos will ensue, lol!

Beans and Nimbus

Beans and Nimbus

November 18, 2015

We adopted Beans and Nimbus (formerly Twizzler and Swedish Berry) over a month and a half ago and we’ve seen them made significant progress since. When we first met them, we were told they were super shy rabbits that did not like to be touched and they were always hiding in their tube. We saw great potential in them and decided to take them in.

The first week we brought them home, they barely interacted with us and would run away whenever we got near. Over a month later after giving them plenty of love, attention, and free range space, they’ve become more social. We would come home and they would run up to us, always looking for food. In fact, Nimbus is often seen doing binkies and zooming around our living room! Most importantly, they don’t mind us petting them as much now and will offer us kisses whenever we’re near. We’re so proud of the progress they made!

Here’s a photo of when we first adopted them vs now.

Milo

Milo

November 17, 2015

Hi there,

Just wanted to share a few of our dogs, both THS alumns. We adopted Milo (formerly Balou) December 2013 and he has been the perfect dog. He’s very calm, mellow, and sweet. He doesn’t love strangers but he loves his people as soon as they earn his trust. We had such an amazing experience that we decided to add one more and adopted Radar (formerly Gary) this past July. He was one of the dogs brought in from Stockton and had poor skin and fur. At the time it was thought he was a stray.

He’s always been pretty cute but you can see he’s pretty handsome now and no skin/fur issues to speak of. Milo and him are warming up to each other and can occasionally be found sharing a cushion or blanket. They’re both full of love, and so far healthy as can be. Both experiences have been wonderful and we’ll never look anywhere other than a shelter for a dog.

Thank you for everything you do daily for these animals.

Millie and Zara

Millie and Zara

November 16, 2015

Hello!

It has been quite a few months since I have taken home Millie & Zara (previously Mirage & Riviera). They have since settled in quite nicely and they both have a very strong bond with Pepper. Millie (silver) has become extremely playful and is quite a goofball. Zara (brown) is slowing starting to trust humans. Treats

I have now named her Andie. She looks very happy and healthy at my place. She is a very affectionate and playful kitten. Very curious at times and with lots of energy. Her favorite places are the window and the bathtub.

Watson

Watson

November 12, 2015

Dear THS,

Two year update! We adopted Watson (previously Ricky) from THS in November 2013. I am happy to report that Watson is still doing great and happy as a clam. He went through a move with us last year, but he settled into the new place just fine. There is a really big off-leash park nearby which we all love, and it’s beautiful in every season, especially fall.

We also recently adopted a small kitten (from Toronto Cat Rescue) named Uni, which is Japanese for sea urchin. Uni was the most rambunctious of the litter, and there’s just something about orange cats that is so irresistible. It took the better part of a month for them to learn each other’s boundaries (or I should say for Watson to learn his boundaries), and for Uni to realize that 1) he is way faster and more agile than Watson and 2) Watson is just a curious guy. They now play fight and cuddle on the couch, and Uni has claimed Watson’s bed for his own. It’s okay though because Watson is king of the couch.

Thank you again for everything, and we’ll update you in a year!

River

River

November 11, 2015

As foster parents for the THS, our lives have been touched by all of our foster puppies, but there was one we couldn’t let go of, River. He is our sweet, playful, old soul who has brought so much love and happiness into our lives. His name is symbolic of our support for the THS as he is named after River St. where the THS is located. We couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity to foster deserving dogs and for bringing River into our lives. Thank you, Thank you! Jessica & Jeremy.

Marie

My wife and I adopted Marie last spring and she has been with us for over 6 months. She continues to put on weight and plays most of the day. I think she’s making up for a life living on the streets.
