Hello,

I just wanted to send along another happy tale, courtesy of the Toronto Humane Society.

I’d been looking for a cat for a number of months, coming to THS about once a week, when one Sunday in December 2014, I knew I had found my baby. I adopted Peppermint Stick, who I renamed Niilo, on December 30 - a perfect way to ring in the New Year in what had been a very difficulty 2014 for me. Niilo settled in quite quickly, not taking long to locate some favourite sleeping spots… which are ever-changing. Like a true cat, he loves to sit on, or in, anything he possibly can. On his first day, he managed to get trapped in a closet - only for a minute though! Since then, he continues to make my family laugh and warm our hearts with his antics and cuteness. He loves to throw his catnip pouches through the air, meow adorably when he wonders where everyone is, and bask in the sun, as this photo attests.

Thank you for the ongoing amazing work that everyone at THS does for all the animals, and for giving them a second chance! I sometimes have to remind myself that I supposedly “rescued” Niilo, for how much he has enriched my life in only 3.5 months. It feels like he was never not a part of my life.

Dallas

April 16, 2015

Hello!

We adopted Dalllas (formerly known as Chocolate) in December of 2012. We loved him before we ever met him and had been looking at his profile on the website for weeks. He caught our eye because he only had one eye! We finally brought him home and we were so, so happy with him!

However, he wasn’t as happy as he could be. He seemed a little grumpy and we thought he might be lonely. Thankfully, he was neutered at the Humane Society during his operation to remove his infected eye, so when we went to pick out his new friend and there were only females, we didn’t worry. We picked out a sweet orange guinea pig to be his friend. They were fast friends and have been happily “married” ever since!

The new friendships didn’t stop there for Dallas, though! In November of 2013, our family welcomed Baby Ben. Ben has been fascinated by both of the “pigs” for almost his whole life, but Dallas has always been his favourite. The love goes both ways with those two. Now that Ben is a toddler, he goes over to Dallas’ cage, offering some apple peel or cucumber and Dallas comes right over to him. When we go outside to play, Dallas goes right over to Ben’s side any time he is nervous or startled. I am so happy that these two have become friends and that Dallas has ignited a love for animals in Ben that will hopefully last his whole life!

Thank you Toronto Humane Society for helping us bring joy and compassion to our family!

Sincerely,

Megan, Glyn, and Ben Morgan

Hi to all my friends at the Toronto Humane Society,

DO YOU REMEMBER ME, IT’S MAGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s been 14 months since I left you and while I was sad to say good-bye, I am soooooooooooo happy with my forever family!!! I know they love me like crazy and I love love them back with so many licks. I take my medication like I am supposed and my doctor has me on a very strict awful diet but I do manage to steal the odd ½ loaf of bread or ½ a pizza off the counter if given the chance.

Not only are there Spencer and Alexander, the 11 year-old twins, my best friends, but their Mom, too. We are always together. When they are not at school, I go in the car with them everywhere, to the Dog Park, and visiting.
An extra special treat at home are Jack and Foggy the cats. They are my playmates. Jack is a wise cat who is 6. I used to chase him a little, now we just cuddle. Alexander, Spencer and Mom adopted Foggy from the Toronto Humane Society in January and now a chase him a little but not too much.

Overall, everyone loves me. Everyone says how sweet I am and how I love to kiss. I do still have a very bad habit of growling at other dogs (while wagging my tail, though) until I meet them nose-to-nose. Every time I do that in a PetSmart store, all the dogs getting trained are told to look at me like I’m a bad example or something????

When Pepper first came to my home she had loved all her toys. She was bouncing off Jordan and Connor (the cat man) introduced her to her new home. She was really playful with her new friend Zoe the dog. She was so hyper during the night that she was jumping on my dad’s head.

We brought our first bunny, Blue, over a year ago and he was happy enough but always thought he needed a friend. We saw bunnies in pet shops but wanted to adopt one from the Humane Society as it was the right thing to do. We live in Guelph and for some reason they rarely have any rabbits in the Humane Society. Therefore we traveled all the way to Toronto one Sunday afternoon to see if they could help in finding a bunny.

We were in luck as they had lots of bunnies in all sizes and colors. We spoke to the people at the Humane Society and they suggested to bring Blue over to see which bunnies we would likely bond. So we drove over a few days later but this time brought Blue with us. After a stuttering start we finally found Flanella who had arrived from Quebec. Blue and her appeared to get on from the start so was the one we choose.

We brought Flanella home and renamed her Bella (easier to say). She was very relaxed and loved her home next to Blue to start the bonding process. They get on well but we don’t want to let them be alone together until more time has passed. Still that didn’t stop them all enjoying a welcome party along with our visiting guinea pig, snowflake. It has been about 6 weeks since Bella arrived and has settled in. It’s good to give a bunny a home and were impressed how smooth the Humane Society made the process.

Dear Toronto Humane Society / Neil

We adopted Annie and Sandy on March 16, 2015. Since then both piggies have adjusted very well in their new environment. They absolutely enjoy their oversized custom made enclosure. We often see them snuggling together and playing with their toys. Annie and Sandy really love parsley, cucumber, lettuce and fennel.

We spend a great amount of ” cuddles time ” with these piggies. They are so comfortable with us that they fall asleep in our arms.
Thank you so much Neil for giving us the opportunity to adopt these very sweet piggies. They have added such tremendous joy to both our lives.

Warmly,
Chanda and Mark

I adopted Bizou in February. My previous bunny had to be put down one day previous. I had bought her from a pet store, and even though she looked normal at the store, it became clear to me within days that she was in fact suffering from an upper respiratory problem. By the time I could find a vet willing to start her on antibiotics, the bacteria had gotten a solid hold in her face. At only 10 months old my Harvey developed a resulting inner ear infection, causing her to lose all sense of balance. It was tragic.

I thought maybe going to the THS and looking at the rabbits would cheer me up. Of course, I had in mind that knowing myself, I would likely come home with one. Once you’ve had a great rabbit like I did, it’s hard to go without one. I asked what the hardest rabbits were to adopt out, and apparently the all-white ones take a little longer. Bizou was so reserved but friendly. She came up to my hand and stuck her head under it. She quickly melted into a bunny puddle of dewlap and fur. I couldn’t resist.

Bizou spent some time in Port Hope before we flew out to Halifax, where she now has the run of my room. I have to say though, she loves her cage. I think she just appreciates having her own safe place, that smells like her, and is so much quieter than the humane society. We went to the vet yesterday for a checkup and they say she is doing great! After adopting her I changed her name to Stevie Nicks, but I just call her Steve. She had been through two humane societies in less than a year, and had picked the name Bizou up in Montreal. Every so often I will start speaking to her in French. After all, she is such a clean, well-behaved, sweet, and gentle bunny that Bizou (kiss) is a great nickname for her.

She is working on trusting other people and animals, but she has come a long way with me, and doesn’t startle when I pick her up, or when the cat comes to say hello. She loves to be cuddled and will in turn, lick my hands and face. She really is a total cupcake. Thanks so much for the awesome bunny buddy, and maybe sometime in the future Bizou may want a boyfriend. We shall have to wait and see… smile
