Mitch and Mo

Mitch and Mo

October 10, 2019

(formerly Alchemist and Scientist)

These two inseparable brothers were adopted just 1 week ago and have settled into their new forever home already. From cuddling to playtime, Mitch and Mo have made their new parents so happy. They love to explore and play with all of their new toys.

Bentley

Bentley

October 03, 2019

When we first brought Bentley home, I’m not going to lie - it was tough. He was sometimes unfriendly and liked to question authority. But we’re almost 2 years in, and he’s come SO far. He’s chock-full of personality and goes out of his way to make friends with everyone. He has 7 fewer teeth than when we brought him home (due to a complicated dental surgery last year), but that hasn’t stopped him from shining his goofy smile in exchange for a head scratch.

His coat has filled out beautifully, and while he’s getting more and more white under his chin, he’s so spunky that people are always shocked to hear he’s 12. He’s so smart, and loves to learn new tricks (when treats are involved of course) - he does everything from either paw to both paws, to spinning in either direction, to rolling over and playing dead, and more.

What we love the most is what a cuddle fiend he’s become… he will literally beg for a morning cuddle sesh or a good belly rub. We may have had a bit of a rocky start with Bentley, but now he’s such an integral part of our family. Thank you for bringing him into our lives!

Naya

Naya

September 27, 2019

When I first rescued Naya, she was sick with Giardia, Coccidia, an ear infection and was 15 pounds underweight. She had been brought back to the humane society 3 times before I had found her and brought her home. With medication and lots of TLC over time she bounced right back. Originally from a sled dog company she was slated to be euthanized. 4 years later she’s strong as an ox. She’s so positive and never gives up. I have no regrets adopting her. When I walked into the shelter I knew right away that she was the one.

Naya is originally from Northern Ottawa, Canada where she worked for a sled dog company which was extremely abusive and neglectful of their dogs. She has general anxiety, fear of aggression and separation anxiety. I was told that I would have to crate her for the rest of her dog life, but now I’m able to let her roam the whole house when I’m gone. Naya is 5 years old. A well mannered woman, but likes to play like she’s still a puppy. She likes to play with animals of all sizes, even if they don’t like to.

Despite the double coat of huskies, Naya loves to swim! The only way I’m able to properly dry her off is with my 4.2 horsepower force dryer. Playful, gentle, loyal, and loves attention. Her favourite hobbies include meeting new friends in high park and hanging out at her aunt’s office.

Bean

Bean

September 19, 2019

My new kitten Bean is incredible. She was fearless on the ride home and was ready to claim the house as her own the moment we stepped inside. Since then she’s been very well-behaved, shown a lot of intelligence and is super affectionate.

She has lots of safe spaces to run around and climb, as well as a bunch of toys to play with to expend her endless energy. She recognizes a few phrases, responds to when called and likes to hear that she’s a good girl. This kitty is super brave as she loves to explore and enjoys taking cat naps in various places.

I give her plenty of love and she’s eager to show that she loves me back through lots of playtime, kisses and cuddles. This has been one of the happiest weeks of my life and I am so lucky to have found my new best friend. Thank you THS!

Rumba

Rumba

September 12, 2019

Rumba settled in so quickly and he’s already familiar with every nook and cranny in the apartment. He’s been nothing short of sweet and has been very friendly ever since.

While it’s been less than a week, he’s already a familiar face in the home and we’re so happy to have him for all the years to come. Our next plan is to purchase a cat tree for him to hang out at his favourite spot beside the windows overlooking Bloor Street!

Toph

Toph

September 06, 2019

We adopted Toph (formerly known as Wednesday) at the end of July. Almost immediately, she adjusted to the apartment and spent the first day with us cuddling and showing us loads of affection. The photo attached is her first night with us and she never fails to make us laugh with her crazy sleeping positions. We found out that Toph LOVES to play fetch, especially with crumpled paper or her favourite toy mouse. There have been many moments where Toph would drop her mouse by our heads while we’re in bed, meowing for us to throw it. Not to mention the countless times we’ve found crumpled papers all over our bed in the mornings.

Toph is definitely a unique girl and we are so blessed that we were able to adopt her from THS!

Oliver

Oliver

August 30, 2019

(formerly Bronx)

I met Oliver on Boxing Day 2006. I had been looking at his picture for many days prior as I eagerly awaited the day I would become a cat owner. As I scrolled through the many pages of cats waiting for homes on your website, I remember passing his picture and immediately stopping. HE was the ONE. He was MY OLIVER. I have loved the name Oliver since I was a child watching Oliver and Company, a story about a lonely cat needing a family. I knew that when I was able to become a family to a cat, I would adopt one and name it Oliver.

Even with all the love and excitement I felt, we got off to a rough start. He was food aggressive and wouldn’t eat the (very expensive and super healthy) cat food I had purchased but was desperate to eat people food. I ended up seeking council from the THS veterinarians and they gave me great advice. Oliver was eating now and we seemed to find our rhyme together.

I will never forget bringing pizza home with a friend, leaving the living room to get plates and drinks, and returning to find a slice missing. Then of course, after realizing that the delivery man didn’t take one for the road, chasing a happy cat around the apartment with a huge slice of pizza in his mouth. We moved around a lot and lost a few favourite toys along the way. Oliver loved to go for walks on his red leash and learned to sit for treats. He was also my protector when dates would come over - he would always find a way to sit right in between us (and honestly, I always let him).

However, I heard somewhere that “beauty and harmony are governed by one eternal rule - all that begins must end” and this is true of Olivers and my story. Oliver passed away today surrounded by lots of love at the vet, he was about 15 years old. He was my first cat, I got him when I was 21 years old. I am now 34. We had a wonderful 13 years together. I loved him beyond measure and I will miss him terribly. Thank you for the work that you do bringing families together. They are family. And they leave the THS loved and cherished.

Tulip

Tulip

August 23, 2019

I adopted Tulip back in February and I just wanted to share how well she’s doing and how happy we are. She’s back to being healthy and happy and has the sweetest personality anyone can ask for.

She’s spunky, fun and perfect. Thank you to everyone at the Humane Society. Keep up your good work because I wouldn’t have Tulip without it.

Thank You

August 21, 2019

I want to sincerely thank all of you who responded to my request regarding my emotions in the loss of my two little doggies - Benji and Tammy.

12 days ago I had to make a very sad decision to have my golden retriever, sweet Rosie O’Grady put to sleep. If I had three words to describe Rosie they would be quiet, clean and low maintenance - you wouldn’t even know she was in the apartment. She had not walked since June 9th because of a problem with her back legs. I wanted to share this story with you all to say thank you.

Sincerely and with love, Dorothy

Luca

Luca

August 09, 2019

I originally brought Luca home as a foster for medical treatment, but after spending our first weekend together I knew he was going to be mine forever.

He’s my one and only foster fail, for which I couldn’t be more proud. Luca is loving, gentle yet protective, quirky, and fun.

He loves eating snacks, going for car rides, belly scratches, and taking naps. He’s an old man but he gets bursts of puppy energy which is the cutest thing ever. His wonky smile is one of those signature qualities which I adore. He loves to give paw in exchange for treats and will ask for pets from anyone who’s willing (or not). I can’t imagine my life without Luca. We celebrated our year of adventures with whipped cream and snuggles!
