Foster Animals
Our shelter is overflowing with immature, sick and injured animals who need the tender, loving care only our foster parents can provide.
Foster parents provide loving in home care to companion animals that are ill, injured or simply too young for adoption. The amount of care a foster animal needs varies widely - from bottle feeding kittens and puppies who need care every few hours to injured and recuperating adult animals who are fine at home all day while you work.
Please come to the shelter at 11 River St if you would like to be a foster parent.
Below are some of the animals looking for a foster home:
Animal type: Small Domestic - Rabbit
Honey Bunny
A131879
Male, 7 years
Hello, my name is Honey Bunny. I am a 7 year old, unaltered male bunny. I have been in the shelter since May 2009, when my owner could not afford to take me to the vet. I have a lot of issues. First, I am almost completely blind. I have cataracts in one eye, and my other eye is shrunken and is no longer of use. However, the vets say that this doesn’t cause me discomfort, and I am quite capable of finding my way around with my nose and ears. I also have compensated renal disease. That means that my kidneys aren’t working as well as they used to, and to compensate I drink a huge amount of water. So far I am able to regulate myself quite well, as long as I always have water to drink. One of my peg teeth also grows a little to the side. Occasionally, I need this trimmed because it starts to stick out the side of my mouth and makes me drool, which is embarrassing. Last, I don’t always spend as much time cleaning myself as I should, so I will need someone who is willing to groom me at least once a week and make sure I stay the handsome boy that I am. I am looking for a Palliative Foster Home where I can be loved and treasured for the rest of my life. If you think you may be the right home for me, please call the Foster Program at 416-392-2273 x2354 or e-mail at rdrummond@torontohumanesociety.com. I can’t wait curl up in my new, forever home.

Animal type: Dog
Princess
A079356
Spayed Female, 6 years
Hi, my name is Princess. I am a 6 year old, spayed female. I have been in the shelter since September 2009, but have been in and out of the shelter for my whole life. I am a very lovable dog who would make a great companion for an experienced dog owner. I am looking for a special home, and would be happiest if there were no children or other animals in the house because I don’t always get along with them. I am currently available for foster while I’m waiting to have my dental surgery – it’s only for a few weeks! After that I will be able to go up for adoption so that I can find a forever home. If you would be willing to foster me, please come down to the shelter to speak with the adoption councilor and foster coordinator, or call the foster department at 416-392-2273 x2354.

Animal type: Cat
Lex
A131376
Neutered Male, 10 months
Hello, my name is Lex. I am a 10 month old, neutered male. I only have one eye, and the one that’s left needs two types of eye drops three times a day until I get better. I am the most social and sweetest boy you’ve ever seen and will love to snuggle constantly. I am looking for a temporary foster home that can help me to overcome my eye issues and give me lots of love for one month. If you think that could be you, please ask about me at the cat desk, or call about our Foster Program at 416-392-2273 x2354.

Animal type: Cat
Zwa Zea
A129106
Spayed Female, 5 years
Hello, my name is Zwa Zea. I am a 5 year old, spayed female. I have been in the shelter since December 2008 – over a year! The shelter staff says that I am morbidly obese, but I think that’s just another way of saying I’m voluptuous! I am good with my litter box, but sometimes I can’t clean myself properly because I just can’t reach (I don’t know why they designed necks to be so short)! When that happens, I will need some help cleaning up and keeping the hair on my behind nice and trimmed. I am looking for a temporary foster home where I can loose some of my extra pounds and soak up all the love you can give me. If you think you could help me out for just a couple of months, please ask about me at the cat desk, or call about our Foster Program at 416-392-2273 x2354.

Animal type: Cat
Odessa
A126998
Spayed Female, 8 years
Hit there, I'm Odessa, I'm a semi-feral cat who was brought into the shelter in September 2008. I am very scared here at the shelter, and I spend most of my time hiding. I really need a nice quiet house with no children, so that I can finally relax and not be so scared all the time.

Animal type: Cat
Perry
A125519
Neutered Male, 13 years
Hi, I’m perry and I’m another of the favorites around here. When I hear one of my friends come in the room, I make cute vocalizations to ensure I’m the first to get attention. When I was surrended to the THS last august my bloodwork showed that I had a hyperactive thyroid. My thyroid is now well regulated because I take a half a tablet of tapazole twice a day. I am good at taking my medication on my own, you just have to hide it in my wet food. So if you’re looking for a cool cat and you don’t mind my giving me my medicine twice a day, please, let me live with you for a while!
