Country Companions

All cats available for adoption in this section require an experienced guardian.

All dogs in this section are “Trained Dogs” and are considered to be animals with certain challenges. In all cases they will require experienced guardians, living in a rural environment, who have dealt with difficult dogs in the past. Potential adopters should have owned dogs with similar behaviour issues in the past, must possess obedience skills, patience and above all, be committed to working through potential problems and providing these dogs with a permanent and stable home which they have never had.

My name is Sage; I am an older gal, almost 10 and was abandoned here by my owner after having lived with them my entire life. I am a very fearful girl and I do not like other dogs. I will need an owner who is experienced with both my breed and in dealing with dog aggression. The best type of environment for me to live in would be a rural home with no other animals and minimal visitors. I can be quite affectionate once I get to know you and I really enjoy spending time outdoors and can become quite playful and frisky for my age. Sometimes I get upset because everything is so new to me. I’ve had the same home my whole life until I was brought to THS. The staff always work hard at helping me feel better by scratching behind my ears and spending time with me.

Male

Hi, I’m Sage a young Am Staff Cross who came to the shelter as a stray. I may be okay with some friendly female dogs but definitely require a home without children as I do have some dominance issues and like to try for the upper hand. I’m normally a pretty laid back guy who doesn’t require as much exercise as some dogs. I’m the kind of dog who likes to chase after a ball but not necessarily retrieve it. I do require a home in a rural area as I am very territorial and do not do well with strangers, however, on the bright side, I would make a good watch dog. I require a very experienced owner. Serious enquiries only.
